Cool little things.
I love it when I go to the library and find a book that looks good but wasn't on my list of things to check out. Went to pick up Juggler of Worlds the other day. Browsed the new book section and came across Age of Misrule. It's a trade paperback and new. The cover is nicely protected with that laminate. The cover has some cool art. There is just something very pleasing about the physicality of a book. Having the object to read from. Much better than reading on-line. |

Body coordination.
I may be getting older, but I still can do some things well. Notice that I can toss items into the garbage with good accuracy. And that I don't need to look when putting keys into the door or into the car. Body muscle memory I suppose. Woo hoo! |

Insurance explained.
So called up Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the person there was very helpful. I think it's a nice change of pace for them that I was polite and well spoken. Turns out that the latest charge is from the lab. And I have to pay 20% of the fee. The lab wanted to charge 1600. BCBS said they would allow only 1200 or so. And 80% of that is paid by the insurance company. So I owe the rest. Turns out the GI doctor charged me for the initial consult, for doing the procedure, for removal of the biopsy. And the endoscopy center charged for the procedure, and the lab for the biopsy test. Man, that's a lot of charges. Pisses me off. At least I have a good idea of how it all works now. And I'm about 670/1000 of the way through my deductible. And it resets in January. |

Medical bills seem manipulative.
I just got a couple of bills for the recent medical procedures I had done. It does not make any sense to me. I don't understand how insurance works. It seems like such a rip off. ( Read more... ) |

Seems to be a good day so far.
Sleep was odd last night. Woke up to a nightmare. It was rather scary. About seeking revenge and hurting this person. Rather graphic. Reminded me of the novel, Sweetheart by Cain. Slept in some. Felt okay when I woke up. Pretty good lunch at Shanghai. Also, this morning did 2/3 of my next drug card assignment. So keeping sort of on track. Have a homework assignment that's due on Wednesday. It looks more challenging than anything we've had so far. |

Shanghai - small dragon buns
Well, the small dragon buns are good, but they are not juicy. So they have changed into tender dumplings and are no longer really "small dragon buns." Oh well. |

Busy day today.
Woke up early so as to be able to study some for the pharmacology test. Didn't sleep that well as I woke up a couple of times in the middle of the night. I suspect it was due to worry about work and about the test. ( Read more... ) |

Restaurant - Taj Palace
Went to Shanghai today, but they were closed. So off to Taj Palace for the buffet. It was pretty good. They serve the bread in individual orders in baskets. I declined. They serve the tandoori chicken from a platter instead of putting it in the line. I had some of the fried spinach. First piece was great. But they the rest were too much. I feel guilty about the breading I had. Meh. The spinach with cheese was good. The chicken in sauce was tasty. The beef was a bit salty, but tasty. And the broccoli was yummy. It was pretty good overall. |

Work - more thoughts, self-exploration, and revelations.
Well, I was in a bad mood today. Since I was out sick yesterday and then behind on my tasks - even on the ones I'm usually really good about. And then feeling burned out. And worried about my Pharmacology class. And just not being as focused. And feeling guilty. So all this came to a head today. And had a very long discussion/talk with my supervisor. Restaurant - Fujian Grand China Buffet
Decided to try Fujian buffet today. It's where the old San Francisco Steakhouse used to be. Went with M-----. Lots of choices. The pepper shrimp was quite tasty. The rest was just so-so. The price is rather high for the quality of the food. It's like a low end Vegas buffet. There is a "Mongolian" stir fry station and sushi. It was okay. Not worth the money though. |

Happiness.
"Paradise is exactly like where you are right now. Only much, much better." --- Laurie Anderson, Language is a Virus. === From advice columnist Carolyn Hax. Dear Carolyn: People always say you have to make yourself happy. What goes into that? How does one make oneself happy? Va. Short, easy description of a long, difficult process: Figure out the things that make you feel confident/fulfilled/energized; that give you a sense of purpose or accomplishment; that tap into your natural abilities and strengths; and that don't put you at the mercy of any one person, and orient your life around those. Often, this requires the separate step -- concurrently or as a precursor -- of reducing the role in your life of things that make you feel worthless/empty/exhausted; that don't excite you; that require skills that don't come naturally; that feel like a waste of time; or that put you routinely at the mercy of others. Then, you make a conscious decision to be patient and flexible toward life, and break any habits of jumping to negative conclusions. === Then there is the Buddhist idea/concept of being happy with what you have. Or the Taoist idea/concept of how things just are. |

Revelation at work today.
Well, met with my boss today to go over a couple of staffing calls I took. We had met last week to discuss my performance and I am still taking too long with staffing. Also, I am talking way too much and irritating some of the workers. ( Read more... ) |

Google changes?
There is something different about the Google result layout. But I cannot figure out what it is exactly. Something about the spacing on the left margin. |

Extra spidery goodness.
So I'm at Central Market looking at the watermelon. There is a cool type that is grey green. Thought about trying that variety, but went with the regular green skinned kind. The top one looked good. I thumped it and it sounded hollow. Looked around more and saw a pretty nice one near the bottom. And then saw a spider spinning a web down in the bottom. Looked closer and it seem to have been a black widow. Wowza. Saw the black color with the narrow waist and red hourglass marking. Scary. Told a produce person and then got a tissue and grabbed the spider. And squooshed him. Awww. |

Kicked in the head by a cop.
So I have a small wound/cut on my forehead. It was noticed by M----- today at coffee. I had the pleasure of explaining how I got it when I was kicked in the head by a police officer the other night. ( Read more... ) |

Book - Against a Dark Background
Went to Barnes and Noble yesterday. It was a somewhat busy day. But finding and buying Against a Dark Background made it all worthwhile. It's an Ian M. Banks book that has been re-released. Most excellent. I love his novels. Space opera. Grand sweep of events. Heady stuff. So many characters. So much going on. So many details. I am captivated. |
